Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation Receives Funding for Building Renovation

New York, New York - U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Brian McGowan today announced a $2.5 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation of Brooklyn, New York to renovate a Navy Yard building for use by green manufacturers. The project is expected to create 300 jobs and generate $4.4 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The city of New York and the Borough of Brooklyn recognize the potential that this project has in strengthening the economy and providing quality jobs for local workers," said McGowan. "This EDA investment in the Brooklyn Navy Yard will provide affordable space for green manufacturers to grow and produce new products and technologies for the marketplace."

The grant will be used to renovate Building 128 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The renovation project will include the replacement of the existing roof with a new roofing system, complete with skylights, photovoltaic panels, iconic roof vents, and other green infrastructure improvements.

McGowan is in New York this week to highlight EDA investments made to support small business and job growth in the region.
