Commerce Department Invests in Monticello, Kentucky to Improve Critical Industrial Infrastructure

WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced a $1.5 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the city of Monticello, Ky., to improve the city's wastewater treatment plant and encourage additional job-creating industrial development. The project is expected to create 400 jobs and generate $5 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

"The Obama administration is committed to job growth and business development, and this grant will fund vital infrastructure needed in the Monticello community," Locke said. "The improved wastewater treatment plant will help attract new jobs and businesses to the region."

This investment will make infrastructure improvements that expand wastewater treatment capacity and support economic diversification and business expansion in a region impacted by the loss of manufacturing jobs. It also corrects system deficiencies to ensure compliance with EPA parameters and the Regional Facilities plan.
