WASHINGTON - U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher today announced a $2 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Scott County Economic Development Authority of Gate City, Va., to help build Phase II of the Crooked Road Technology Center in Duffield, Va. The project is expected to create 63 jobs and generate $4.6 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.
"Through our Economic Development Administration, we provide funding to local communities to enhance job creation, economic growth and competitiveness," Locke said. "We are pleased to work with Congressman Boucher to build an environmentally friendly facility that will attract new, innovative businesses and jobs to the region."
"The federal investment of $2 million announced today will help Southwest Virginia attract new technology-based jobs in innovative companies. The construction of the second phase of the Crooked Road Technology Center in Duffield enabled by this allocation of federal funds represents a significant step toward achieving our economic development goals for the region," Boucher said.
The Crooked Road Technology Center is a multi-tenant facility located in the Scott County Business and Technology Park that is being marketed to technology-based and research and development companies. The Phase II facility will incorporate a number of green building components, including a geothermal HVAC system, and is partially funded through EDA's Global Climate Change Mitigation Incentive Fund (GCCMIF), which is intended to foster the green economy by promoting economic competitiveness while enhancing environmental quality.
