U.S. Economic Development Administration Invests $700,000 to Bolster Manufacturing in Wilkes County, North Carolina

WASHINGTON – U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Jay Williams today announced a $700,000 grant to the Town of Wilkesboro, North Carolina to improve water infrastructure in order to help a local employer expand its operations. According to the grantee, this project will create 30 jobs and generate $2.5 million in private investment.

“Infrastructure plays a crucial role in supporting business and industry, and the Obama Administration is committed to ensuring that our businesses have adequate infrastructure to support their operations and future expansions,” said Assistant Secretary Williams. “The EDA investment announced today will ensure that local businesses have the critical water infrastructure they need to retain and create jobs for the people of Wilkes County.”

EDA’s investment will fund municipal water system improvements to provide capacity and fire protection to support a manufacturer of metal roofing, steel buildings and structures, and life safety equipment. According to the grantee, the investment will support economic diversification for the region and help it become more economically competitive.
