Spotlight: John Fleming, M.D. Sworn in as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development
On Friday, March 15, Dr. John C. Fleming of Minden, Louisiana was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. The action follows the March 7 U.S. Senate vote to confirm Fleming as the new administrator of the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA).
A four term U.S. Congressman serving Louisiana’s 4th Congressional district from January 2009 to January 2017, Fleming is also a physician, businessman and former Webster Parish coroner. As head of EDA, Dr. Fleming will be responsible for fulfilling the agency’s mission of leading the federal economic development agenda.

Success Story: EDA University Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Helps Texas’ Woman-led Ensemble Group Grow and Succeed
Ensemble Group founder and CEO Gracie Martin has spent the last decade building a thriving consulting business creating custom websites and applications, with the help of the EDA University Center at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) and its Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (CBBIC). CBBIC promotes cross-disciplinary academic and entrepreneurial programs across the University, including business incubation services and executive/professional education.

Ensemble Group went through CBBIC’s incubation process and graduated from the program in February 2015. Today, the company resides at the Innovation Center and serves as an anchor tenant, providing mentorship for current clients. They also offer products and/or services consistent with the mission of the Innovation Center, while agreeing to provide resources at preferential rates. Specifically, Ensemble Group specializes in custom-built systems and web solutions designed to meet an individual clients’ business need. It also provides branding, graphic design, IOS and Android apps, WordPress development and management and e-commerce websites.
