U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $988,402 to Make Water Infrastructure Improvements Needed to Support Business Growth in West Monroe, Louisiana

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $988,402 grant to the city of West Monroe, Louisiana, for the construction of a storm water and drainage system to protect West Monroe Industrial Park from reoccurring flooding. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to retain 15 jobs.
“We commend the city of West Monroe on their strategy to lessen the impact of flooding on the local business community,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will help protect businesses that are vital to the North Delta Regional economy.”
West Monroe has suffered more than four major flood events in the past ten years. The infrastructure improvements will help prevent the impacts, such as damage issues and major disruptions to the 47 companies located in the West Monroe Industrial Park, from reoccurring floods.
