U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.5 Million for Water Infrastructure Improvements Needed to Support Businesses Development and Expansion in Sapulpa, Oklahoma

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to the city of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to make critical water infrastructure improvements needed to support business development and expansion in the region. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 1,515 jobs and attract $813 million in private investment.
“During his campaign, President Trump promised that there would be a new emphasis placed on rebuilding American infrastructure after years of neglect,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “Sapulpa’s improved infrastructure will support Oklahoma’s growing business needs while helping to provide over a thousand jobs to local residents.”
The project will include the construction of new waterlines that will stretch across Sapulpa city limits to a local industrial park. The increased wastewater capacity will help attract new businesses to the region - including a major personal care products company that is expected to establish a headquarters campus - and will help existing businesses expand operations. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Indian Nation Council of Governments. EDA funds the Indian Nation Council of Governments to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
