U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $510,790 for Infrastructure to Support Business Expansion in Georgia

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $510,790 grant to the city of Forsyth, Georgia, to upgrade and expand electrical infrastructure at the Monroe County Industrial Park. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create or retain 80 jobs and spur $46 million in private investment.

“We commend the city of Forsyth for working to generate economic growth by increasing the business capacity of its local industrial park,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will allow for the expansion of area manufacturers and other businesses by providing the electrical infrastructure they need to grow and thrive.”

The project will make improvements to electrical infrastructure, doubling the capacity for the Monroe County Industrial Park. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Middle Georgia Regional Commission. EDA funds the Middle Georgia Regional Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
