U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $738,425 to Make Roadway Improvements Needed to Support Businesses Growth in Fremont, Michigan

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $738,425 grant to the city of Fremont, Michigan, to make roadway improvements needed to support current businesses and encourage additional economic growth. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create or retain more than 100 jobs and generate $4.4 million in private investment.

“We commend the City of Fremont and local leaders on their strategy to improve roadway infrastructure in support of the business community,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “The new roadway will help existing businesses with trucking logistics and make the Fremont Industrial Park more desirable and marketable for future development.”

The EDA investment will support the new construction of nearly a 1/2 mile of roadway that will provide an alternative truck route from the Fremont Industrial Park to Michigan State Route 82. The project will reduce traffic congestion in downtown Fremont and alleviate truck traffic from residential streets. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission. EDA funds the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
