U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.6 Million to Establish the Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities Initiative

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.6 million grant to the National Association of Counties (NACo) to lead a coal-focused Community of Practice called the Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities Initiative. The establishment of this multi-organizational, self-governing, knowledge-sharing community will empower local government leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other community champions to develop new ideas, approaches, and fundable projects as coal communities transform their economies. This grant is funded by the American Rescue Plan.

Assistant Secretary Castillo Talks Cooperation, Advancement at Summit of the Americas IX

Last week, the United States hosted the Organization of American States’(OAS) ninth Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, California, for the first time since 1994. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo was a senior member joining the U.S. Department of Commerce delegation to the historic summit.
