Project Description:

Georgia Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing (Georgia AIM) is leveraging a $65 million BBBRC grant to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across the state’s legacy industrial sectors. The Georgia AIM coalition aims to establish the United States as a leader in AI manufacturing while ensuring these systems complement, rather than replace, existing workers. The coalition aims to serve as a national model for how to accelerate the transition to automation in manufacturing, while diversifying the next generation of AI leadership and the AI manufacturing workforce.

Coalition partners include the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs, Augusta University Research Institute, Inc., the Technical College System of Georgia, 21st Century Partnership Foundation, Inc., Southwest Georgia Regional Commission, and TAG-Ed.

As of September 2024, the coalition has made significant strides in achieving its vision of an equitable future for AI and manufacturing:

  • The Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs, a partnering organization that serves as a resource for Black small businesses in Atlanta, has developed seven modules to demonstrate how AI can benefit the communities with plans to create 4,800 unique engagements and 200 manufacturing jobs by 2027.
  • The Georgia Tech AI Manufacturing Pilot Facility has convened 224 events to host a variety of stakeholders, including small, medium, large industry partners, students, technical schools, communities, government agencies and other local partners, and has engaged with more than 268 businesses during these events.
  • The coalition has established three innovation incubators and four AI manufacturing studios at technical colleges across the state to provide regional entry points to AI manufacturing careers and establish a workforce pipeline for good-paying jobs in advanced manufacturing jobs.
