The Risk and Resilience Tech Hub, led by the Miami Dade County Innovation and Economic Development Office, advances South Florida’s global economic leadership in resilient infrastructure by setting a new standard for next generation technology that cuts costs and risk. Building on the region’s unique resources including its cluster of clean cement companies, expertise in coastal and marine infrastructure, resilient energy industries, and academic and research institutions, this Tech Hub jumpstarts innovation by developing, commercializing, and scaling risk management technologies for domestic and national security and international markets.
In July 2024, EDA recommended this Tech Hub receive grant funding of approximately $19 million to implement three projects, including:
- Scaling advanced concrete technologies made with reduced emissions that protect environments in low-lying areas, specifically focusing on communities most affected by extreme weather events;
- Establishing workforce development programs that offer career pathways for small businesses and workforce development through certifications, training, and apprenticeships, supplemented with wraparound services; and
- Cutting red tape to foster collaboration among government, startups, corporations, capital partners, community advocates, and academia to rapidly affect change by deploying new risk and resilience technology where it is most needed.
The Tech Hub is committed to addressing generational systemic gaps by engaging our local workforce and businesses to help them improve and ensure balanced community outcomes.
