UK Innovate University Center seeks to empower the next generation of entrepreneurial and commercialization leaders to fill a talent gap in Kentucky’s emerging startup ecosystem. Annually, across the state, over 5,000 individuals graduate with advanced degrees, and 70% of those individuals transition to careers outside academia. We have a rich pool of talent within the state and an emerging innovation economy; however, compared to more advanced startup ecosystems, there is a need for opportunities where graduate trainees can adapt their education into transferable skills to better serve the innovation economy. As an EDA University Center, we provide foundational education and experiential training opportunities around innovation and commercialization—from ideation to impact—that complement current education and technical skillsets and foster the translation of talent toward impact in the larger innovation economy. Our trainees graduate with the skills and confidence to drive technology forward.
