To expand the pipeline and fill the growing need for highly networked inclusive regional talent, the University of Rhode Island (URI) Department of Computer Science and Statistics (CS&S) proposes the Pathways to Success in Computer Science (P2S in CS) program, a University Center designed to close the equity gap for workers of diverse backgrounds in computer science and help attract and retain students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to the field by providing them with integrated services and resources. The P2S in CS program will provide the infrastructure needed to: 1) provide 10 rising sophomores each year with rigorous academic support; 2) build community and professional development among the cohort through workshops and academic experiences; 3) implement a Workforce Immersive Summer Experience (WISE) to prepare students for future internships and careers in Rhode Island’s rapidly growing techforce; and 4) place students who successfully complete the P2S in CS program into internships their rising junior and/or senior years.
