EDA announced 20 investments from August 18-31, 2023, totaling $5,305,837, which is matched by $6,299,867 in local investments.  These investments include the following: (1) $742,180 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base that will help create 223 jobs, save 12 jobs, and leverage $40,000,000 in private investment; (2) $2,500,000 in one Public Works project to help communities revitalize, expand, and upgrade their physical infrastructure that will help create 1,000 jobs and leverage $2,400,000,000 in private investments; (3) $1,885,785 in 14 Technical Assistance University Center projects to make the varied and vast resources of universities available to the economic development practitioner community; (4) $129,122 in one Local Technical Assistance projects to strengthen the capacity of local or state organizations and institutions to undertake and promote effective economic development programs; and (5) $48,750 in three Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.

  • $742,180 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project, matched by $318,078 in local investment, as follows:
    • $742,180, matched by $318,078 in local investment, to the Wiregrass Georgia Technology College/Technical College System of Georgia, Fitzgerald/Ben Hill County, Georgia, to support the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College with enhancing their truck driver training program by constructing an access road to support truck driver training workforce development in Fitzgerald.  The project work includes the construction of a paved access road to Tech Pointe Drive, which is the nearest street, and a concrete practice pad.  The pad will be used for training such as parking skills, backing skills, truck inspections, disconnecting semitrailers, and other skills.  The completion of the training will lead to a commercial truck driving license, endorsements, or certifications.  Once completed, the college will have provided access to job training, which will help strengthen the regional economy and increase private investment throughout the region.  The grantees estimate that this investment will help create 223 jobs, save 12 jobs, and leverage $40,000,000 in private investment.
  • $2,500,000 in one Public Works projects, matched by $3,910,256 in local investments, as follows:
    • $2,500,000, matched by $3,910,256 in local investment, to North Baldwin Utilities, Bay Minette/Baldwin County, Alabama, to support construction of water infrastructure upgrades to support a new aluminum manufacturing facility in Bay Minette.  The project will construct an elevated water tank at a local business park, to help generate new businesses, create jobs, and drive economic growth throughout the region.  The grantee estimates that this investment will help create 1,000 jobs and leverage $2,400,000,000 in private investment.

    • $129,122, matched by $32,280 in local investment, to the Catawba Regional Council of Governments, Rock Hill/York County, South Carolina, to support the Catawba Regional Council of Governments with providing technical assistance and resources to help keep training costs affordable and allow for continued and expanded technical and leadership training for emerging leaders and executive directors of the Southeast Regional Directors Institute and Regional Councils/Economic Development Districts in Rock Hill.  Once completed, the project will help enhance future economic sustainability, strengthen the regional economy, and bolster economic resiliency throughout the region.
  • $48,750 in three Partnership Planning projects, with no local match, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS).  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
