EDA announced 19 investments from December 7-13, 2022, totaling $1,572,099, which is matched by $1,291,367 in local investments. These investments include the following: (1) $385,469 in two Economic Adjustment Assistance projects to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base; and (2) $1,186,630 in 17 Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.

  • $385,469 in two Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $96,367 in local investments, as follows:
    • $257,469, matched by $64,367 in local investment, to the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, Cape Coral/Lee County, Florida, to fund the hiring of a Disaster Recovery Coordinator to support long-term economic recovery and resiliency activities in the southwest Florida region, to include Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Sarasota Counties. The coordinator will specifically work with small to mid-sized growers in the six counties, as well as small and minority-owned businesses to access funding to help sustain their business operation and support those businesses in the development of recovery and resilience plans. Once completed, the project will create jobs, mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $128,000 in Assistance to Coal Communities, matched by $32,000 in local investment, to the Eastern Panhandle Regional Planning and Development Council, Martinsburg/Berkeley County, West Virginia, to support the procurement of a contract employee to assist with the completion of a recovery/resiliency study and the update and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for three counties impacted by the downturn in the coal industry in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy. Once completed, the project will help the region create new job opportunities to boost economic development, diversify the local economy, and advance economic resiliency.
