EDA announced seven investments from June 15-21, 2023, totaling $1,164,560, which is matched by $517,679 in local investments.  These investments include the following: (1) $280,000 in two Economic Adjustment Assistance projects to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base; (2) $70,000 in one Local Technical Assistance project to strengthen the capacity of local or state organizations and institutions to undertake and promote effective economic development programs; and (3) $814,560 in four Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.

  • $280,000 in two Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $70,000 in local investments, as follows:
    • $200,000 in Assistance to Coal Communities, matched by $50,000 in local investment, to the Lenowisco Planning District Commission, Duffield/Scott County, Virginia, to support the development of a Regional Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Manufacturing Supply Chain Report to assist this coal dependent region with identifying and preparing for retooling existing businesses and recruiting new businesses with manufacturing jobs in Scott County, Virginia.  The project will assist the region with equipping these far southwestern Virginia communities with the ability to host SMR sites and subsequent manufacturing supply chain.  Once completed, the project will help promote new business creations, advance economic resiliency, and boost economic development in an area that has been impacted by the decline in the coal industry.
    • $80,000, matched by $20,000 in local investment, to the Lake County Economic Development Corporation, Lakeport/Lake County, California, to support the update and continued implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the rural county of Lake in northern California.  The updated CEDS will allow the county to effectively strategize for economic development in the region, particularly to support the county in recovering from natural disasters ranging from wildfires to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The updated CEDS will also address the highly anticipated impacts of inflation and supply chain issues in a region heavily reliant on the tourism and recreation industries.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy, and the updated CEDS will allow the region to expand economic opportunity and create high-wage jobs for its' residents.
  • $70,000 in one Local Technical Assistance project, matched by $70,000 in local investment, as follows:
    • $70,000, matched by $70,000 in local investment, to the Northern Nevada Regional Development Authority, Elko/Elko County, Nevada, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS), and foster collaboration in the region served by the Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority (NNRDA).  NNRDA will establish and maintain economic development partnerships, support infrastructure by partnering with local communities to identify investment needs, and support diversification while maintaining the current legacy industries (mining, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, natural/renewable energy, health services, tourism, etc.).  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
