EDA announced 4 investments from March 14 - 21, 2024, totaling $1,061,426 which is matched by $281,142 in local investments.  These investments include the following:

  1. $996,426 in three Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022 and help create/save 100 jobs and leverage $1.5 million in private investment.
  2. $65,000 in one Partnership Planning project to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.
  • $996,426 in three 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $281,142 in local investments, as follows:
    • $676,426 to the City of Longwood, Longwood/Seminole County, Florida, to support with making new stormwater system improvements along the city’s Bennett Drive industrial park area to alleviate stormwater flooding generated by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole in Seminole, Florida.  The project work will include the construction of a new stormwater collection and conveyance system with a main trunk line.  Once completed, the project will enhance water infrastructure serving the city, boost economic resiliency, and create jobs, which will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create/save 100 jobs and leverage $1.5 million in private investment.
    • $120,000 to the St. Charles County Economic Development Council, St. Charles/St. Charles County, Missouri, to support with developing a five-year Economic Development Resiliency Plan, following severe storm and flash flooding impacts in 2022.  The plan will position St. Charles County to recover and lay the groundwork for improved economic and physical resilience, which will help expand and diversify the region’s economic base.
    • $250,000 to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, San Francisco/San Francisco County, California to support with assessing energy solutions to alleviate the pressing constraints on growth and retention of industrial and manufacturing jobs in San Francisco, California.  Once completed, the project will help accelerate a clean energy transition and build resiliency into the energy infrastructure that is susceptible to shut offs and breakdowns due to wildfires and climate-related heat events, which will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
  • $65,000 in one Partnership Planning project, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS).  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
    • $65,000 to the Makah Indian Tribe of the Makah Indian Reservation, Neah Bay/Clallam County, Washington, to support the continued development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Makah Indian Tribe.  The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
