EDA announced 14 investments from May 2 – May 9, 2024, totaling $14,055,400 which is matched by $3,336,651 in local investments. These investments include the following:
- $11,705,400 in four Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022.
- $600,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance project to help communities design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to their economy in response to structural damage to their underlying economic base and help create 72 jobs.
- $70,000 in one Local Technical Assistance project to strengthen the capacity of local or state organizations and institutions to undertake and promote effective economic development programs.
- $1,680,000 in eight Partnership Planning projects to support the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy process.
- $11,705,400 in four 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $2,176,350 in local investments, as follows:
- $3,431,000 to Advantage Valley, Inc., Charleston/Kanawha County, WV, to support with making infrastructure improvements to an industrial facility in Charleston, West Virginia. The project work includes renovations to the roofing, weatherproofing, replacement of exterior overhead doors, fire protection upgrades, bathroom upgrades, lighting upgrades, and appurtenances. Once completed, the project will lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
- $3,074,400 to the City of Lancaster Lancaster/Lancaster County, SC, to support replacing the aging, undersized 6-inch water lines along West Meeting and Pine Streets in Lancaster County, South Carolina. The 6-inch cast iron lines break regularly and create a hydraulic bottleneck in the city’s water system because they connect to larger lines in all directions, which jeopardizes water flow, quality, and pressure as well as fire protection for the local Medical Center and the many medical facilities and businesses in the area. Once completed, the project will promote community resilience and strengthen the regional economy.
- $3,000,000 to the Pueblo of Jemez, Jemez Pueblo/Sandoval County, NM, to support with updating public infrastructure to help sustain rural economies and agrarian lifeways in Sandoval County, New Mexico. Heavy monsoons following fire disasters, most recently the 2022 Cerro Pelado Fire, have caused severe damage from flooding and sedimentation throughout the Pueblo's irrigation system. The project repairs will result in efficient water conveyance, higher crop yields and economic gain for Jemez food vendors. Once completed, the project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth and resiliency throughout the region.
- $2,200,000 to the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, Elton/Jefferson Davis Parish, LA, to support with constructing a fiber optic cable within the existing US 165 right-of-way (ROW) in both Allen and Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The project will lay broadband fiber underground as a long-term solution and investment for telecommunications. In addition, the project work includes laying additional fiber conduit to accommodate the region’s growing population and economy for future fiber optic cable installations. Once completed, the project will advance economic resiliency and strengthen the regional economy.
- $600,000 in one Economic Adjustment Assistance projects, matched by $210,000 in local investments, as follows:
- $600,000 to the City of Tulare, /Tulare County, CA, to support with purchasing and delivering essential specialized trade equipment for a business accelerator, including but not limited to, arts and crafts, electronics, fabrication, woodworking, computers, 3D printers, and textiles in Tulare County, California. The project will help advance the city's economic growth through job creation, promotion of small businesses, and workforce development. Once completed, the economic impact will enhance future economic sustainability, strengthen the regional economy, and bolster economic resiliency throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will help create 72 jobs.
- $70,000 in one Local Technical Assistance projects, matched by $17,801 as follows:
- $70,000 to the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, Yuma/Yuma County, Arizona, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, which comprises the Western counties of La Paz and Yuma. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $1,680,000 in eight Partnership Planning projects, matched by $932,500: to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS). The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Arlington/Tarrant County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Nortex Regional Planning Commission, Wichita Falls/Wichita County, Texas to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Nortex Regional Planning Commission, which comprises the counties of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague, Wichita, Wilbarger, and Young. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Heart of Texas Economic Development District Incorporated, Waco/McLennan County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Heart of Texas Economic Development District, which comprises the counties of Hill, Falls, Freestone, McLennan, Bosque, and Limestone. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, Weslaco/Hidalgo County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, which comprises the counties of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Gulf Coast Economic Development District, Inc., Houston/Harris County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Gulf Coast of Texas, which comprises the counties of Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker, Waller, and Wharton. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Texoma Council of Governments Sherman/Grayson County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Texoma Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Cooke, Fannin, and Grayson. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Carrizo Springs/Dimmit County, Texas, to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, which comprises the counties of Dimmit, Edwards, Kinney, Maverick, LaSalle, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
- $210,000 to the Concho Valley Economic Development District, San Angelo/Tom Green County, Texas to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) in the region served by the Concho Valley Economic Development District, which comprises the counties of Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
