EDA announced 3 investments from November 14 – November 21, 2024, totaling $4,622,347 which is matched by $400,000 in local investments. These investments include the following:
- $4,622,347 in three Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022, and to help save 3,400 jobs.
- $4,622,347 in three 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $400,000 in local investments, as follows:
- $3,118,500 to the Town of Warren, Warren/Bristol County, RI, to support making electrical upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility that experienced severe flooding, resulting in the failure of the facilities primary electrical feed and requiring the stopgap use of a second redundant feed in the area. The project will allow for major electrical upgrades critical for the reliable wastewater treatment facility’s function to avoid untreated wastewater discharge to the environment, and to improve resilience to forecasted increased future flooding due to climate change. The grantee estimates that this investment will save 3,400 jobs.
- $903,847 to the Makah Indian Tribe of the Makah Indian Reservation, Neah Bay/Kitsap County, WA, to support the Tribe with performing an Enhanced Feasibility Study for the Hobuck Beach Resort in Neah Bay. The project will help provide vital resources needed for master planning and feasibility to prepare for the future construction of a 30- room motel in the vicinity of the Tribes Hobuck Beach Cabins/RV Park on the Makah Reservation. The project will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
- $600,000 to the Maui Economic Development Board, Inc., Kihei/Maui County, HI, to support the implementation of an advanced manufacturing partnership organizational development program in Maui County. The project work includes performing an assessment of the exist infrastructure and gaps in Maui advanced manufacturing capacity, developing educational and training programs, facilitating industry collaboration and networking, promoting technology adoption and innovation, engaging in the educating and informing of policy makers, enhancing economic development and job creation, fostering sustainability and environmental stewardship, promoting public awareness and community engagement, and developing funding and resources. The project will help lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
