EDA announced 5 investments from November 21 – December 5, 2024, totaling $4,784,692 which is matched by $3,704,174 in local investments. These investments include the following:

  1. $4,784,692 in five Economic Adjustment Assistance-2023 Disaster Supplemental projects to help regions that are experiencing severe economic distress or other economic hardship resulting from Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022, and create 150 jobs, save 60 jobs, and leverage $150 million in private investments.

 

  • $4,784,692 in five 2023 Disaster Supplemental projects, matched by $3,704,174 in local investments, as follows:
    • $700,375 to the city of Sweet Home, Sweet Home/Linn County, OR, to support purchasing three power generators to ensure uninterrupted power to key public utilities in the area. The project will help the city provide an uninterrupted water supply and maintain public services during power outages, which are important for maintaining business continuity following the winter storm of February 2021 that hit Sweet Home and the region hard. The project will help lay the groundwork for long-term economic vitality and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $3,344,000 to the city of Rice Lake, Rice Lake/St. Louis County, MN, to support installing water and wastewater infrastructure to a 135-acre industrial park in St. Louis County. The two-mile long extension of water and wastewater lines will benefit Minnesota Power’s new Central Work Area service center to be built in the industrial park. The project will help strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region. The grantee estimates that this investment will create 150 jobs, save 60 jobs, and leverage $150 million in private investment.
    • $440,318 to the city of Independence, Independence/Polk County, OR, to support conducting a feasibility study, preliminary design, and wetland delineation fieldwork for a new raw water intake facility and its associated treatment processes in Polk County. The project will provide valuable data to build a resilient infrastructure to accommodate economic development, business retention and growth, and population growth in the region. The project will help expand and diversify the region’s economic base and promote economic resiliency throughout the region.
    • $199,999 to the City and County of Honolulu, Honolulu/Honolulu County, HI, to support implementing a program to develop a network to strengthen disaster mitigation, management, and recovery for the benefit of small business enterprises in the area. The program will contribute to the development of regional capacity, which will strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
    • $100,000 to the Port of Shelton, Shelton/Mason County, WA, to support conducting a site feasibility study to include but not limited to geotechnical, environmental, and archaeological reviews, and pre-engineering layout concepts for the construction of the Sanderson Substation in the area. The Substation will service the development of a two-acre site located within the Port’s Sanderson Field airport and industrial park. The project will help strengthen the regional economy and support economic growth throughout the region.
