To Bolster Economic Competitiveness and Resiliency, U.S. Department of Commerce Funds Eight Communities of Practice

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) had completed awarding $27.9 million in cooperative agreements to establish eight economic development Communities of Practice. Communities of practice are designed to connect participants to capture and disseminate practical knowledge. Each Community of Practice supported through these EDA awards will bring together thematically related groups of economic development practitioners who are working to develop economic ecosystems conducive to the creation of quality jobs for American workers.

BLOG | Building Better Regions Community of Practice and Research Grantees Make Early Progress in Support of Regional Coalitions

In 2022, the Economic Development Administration (EDA), working with leading economic development organizations, established a robust networking, technical assistance, and research program to guide innovation in place-based economic development. Using the work of the 60 coalitions selected to participate in EDA’s historic $1 billion Build Back Better Regional Challenge as a living laboratory, the Building Better Regions Community of Practice – as well as three separate research projects – is now well underway.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2 Million to Support Educational Training for Advanced Manufacturing in Central Wisconsin

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to Mid-State Technical College, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, to support the development of the College’s Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology and Apprenticeship (AMETA) Center.

BLOG | Celebrating 400 Blueprints for a Modern Economy

In January 2023, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) reached a historic milestone with three additional regional organizations designated as Economic Development Districts (EDD). With these additions, there are now 400 such organizations across the country, leading locally-driven economic development planning, technical assistance, strategies and coordination.

EDA Brews a Sense of Community with Tribal Stakeholders

In 2022, Ernest Weston, Jr. joined EDA as the first Tribal Economic Development Representative. Working out of the Denver Regional Office, he soon began looking for unique ways to engage local Tribal stakeholders. In doing so, Weston recognized the need to create community in the meaningful work of Tribal Economic Development.
